What would you eat if you were immortal and could eat indefinitely?
Replacing bad habits with good habits, one small step at a time.
So yes, you can live forever. What would you eat to ensure a super-long-term health?
Most of us would swear by healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and such. Common sense would nudge us towards a good balance of highly nutritious foods and turn us away and avoid the bad ones like chips, sweets, and all kinds of junk. We’d rather avoid self-sabotage and all the damages that we know come with crappy foods. Nobody wants to live an eternal life being obese, or with type-2 diabetes, or with cardiovascular diseases, or impaired in energy and movement.
‘Common sense’ is not enough
Despite this, we don’t hesitate to lean towards what we know does not work in our favour - be it eating junk food, wasting time in front of the TV, being angry at people, whatever.
We don’t have infinite time and energy, but we still lose them on meaningless trivialities.
We don’t have an invincible body, but we convince ourselves that another day without exercise, or eating a bad diet, won’t kill us after all.
Why do we perpetuate behaviors that work against us?
While self kindness is essential to deal with our flaws, sometimes it is also essential to be a bit more ruthless and audit ourself with a bit more severity. Pardoning every occurrence of a bad habit will contribute very little to straighten it.
Let’s start to make some progress
For me, today progress is about food: what can I eat more of today to make my finite days as a diabetic a bit better? What food that I usually consume can I avoid eating instead?
And if I fail, can I be a bit more severe?
And what about you?
